Kottimulwela Rajamaha Viharaya

Kottimulwele Rajamaha Viharaya can be considered as one which contributes to the
historical importance of Balangoda.

 This Viharaya was constructed during the reign of king walagamba. It is stated in the
chronicles that king walagamba fled from his enemies and hid in this area.

Hence this Viharaya was constructed here. Today Buddhist monks of every sect occupy this Viharaya.

This historical and ancient Viharaya attracts devotees from all areas.

It is also known that the murals on the walls belong to the kandyan era.

    Great post! It’s truly amazing to see the amount of temples, statues and the likes that were commissioned bye King Walagamba. It’s great to see that some of these historic sites are maintained and preserved for posterity.
