They said that “our victory is going to further……….”

Balangoda Damahana public school got further great victory at the “ICT Excellency Award” which was organized by the secondary educational modernization project of ministry of education in 2009. They were able to get the second place at the Sabaragamuwa Provincial level. We were able to win 1.5 millions As the Award. Under the same process of competitions we won the 9th place at “All Island level” and we could increase the amount of 1.5 millions up to 2.15 millions. They won this victory because of the great dedication and courage of the staff and the students. We congratulate them.

We are the greatest winners

The secondary modernization project/ educational for knowledge society of the ministry of education are lunching special programmes to increase the usage of ICT.
We can introduce “National ICT Excellency Award” as a new initiative programme.  Applications were invited for this at this end of 2009 and the computer learning center of Balangoda Damahana public school also applied for this competition.
This result  were out in the month of February 2011 and Damahana public school won the 2nd place in the Sabaragamuwa province. We were able to win 1.5 million LKR. We hope to win great victories in national level evaluations also.
This process of competitions were held under three categories as A,B,C  among  government schools. The schools which have computer learning centers or ICT centers  of schoolNet internet connection were categorized under  “A “ and the computer learning  centers or ICT centers  which don’t have schoolNet connection were categorized under  “B”  and  the schools which don’t have above facilities but they have usage of modern ICT were categorized under” C”.
The difference of this process of this competitions was using the internet  (online uploaded) to hand over applications and evaluate more than the traditional process of competitions.
The application was to submit as an “online “ through the internet.
Balangoda Damahana public school took part of in this under category  “A” and got  94.1 points. We became the  2nd place of the Sabaragamuwa province. Here the school was evaluated under nine criteria including  all the sections of using ICT and resources by the Zonal level  at the first shy and provincial level at the second shy.
Here the special project s launched to improve the ICT and the usage of ICT were evaluated specially. The teachers suggest that we were able to score   maximum marks through that.
This great victory is highly appreciated by the principal and he expressed his graduate to all who dedicated for this.
The teacher in charge(the CLC manager) of the computer laboratory expresses that amount of money is a great award to a school. Further he expresses that he intends to use this amount of money to increase the facilities of the lab and to broaden the facilities.
The parents and the old students of the school express their congratulations about this great victory.

Dinusha who conquered the education using ICT.

Dinusha Gayani Darmadasa is a bright student of Oasisdamahana ICT foundation. Dinusha has been joining with Oasisdamahana foundation for three years. She engages in various activities using ICT. She writes web Blog and tries to learn how to makes web sites. She explores the information using internet. Dinusha faced for G.C.E.(A/L) examination in 2010. She tried her level best to solve her subject problems through the internet. She passed the G.C.E (A/L) examination with three A’s in commerce scheme. Dinusha was lucky to enter the University for hire education. Her district rank was 91. Dinusha’s farther is a farmer and her mother is a housewife. They are living in a rural village called Mawela Thalakolaheenna in Balangoda. Though her parents were farmers they tried their level best to teach their loving daughter. As a result of that today they are very happy.

“ My parents and teachers tried their best to teach me. If we need to pass the Examination successfully we must work hard at the beginning. Especially we must gather extra knowledge. I had understood it. I was recruited to Oasisdamahana foundation and used the internet my level best for my education. So I think that I have got a good result for my life” That’s Dinusha’s Idea. Dinusha the student who used ICT for her education and tried to go to ahead , we the Oasisdamahana foundation wish you all the best.

Our students gain glory.

The students of Balangoda  Damahana public school have achieved  great  results from the G.C.E. Advance Level examination in 2010 also. Advance level subjects are being conducted only in commerce and Arts sections , five students have been qualified  for university entrance from both sections.

Achieving success by winning software competition 2010.


The students of Balangoda Damahana Public school won the first and fourth places, for the provincial software competition held in 2010 in Sabaragamuwa province held by SEMP II/EKSP project.

The students of Balangoda Damahana Public school recently won the first and fourth places in a provincial software competition, hosted by SEMP II/EKSP and held in the
Sabaragamuwa province.

Lasantha Jayanath Peellawaththa, both a founding and senior member of the OasisDamahana foundation, won the first place for his presentation on the topic of the “Production Possibility Curve”. Mr Peellawaththa was awarded his winner’s certificate, gift voucher and chalice by the honorable governor of the Sabaragamuwa province Mr, V.J.M. Lokubandara.
The prize giving ceremony was held at the Ratnapura Samudi hall on the 24th November 2010 and well attended. 4th place was won by a student from the local Damahana public school.
The local community were all incredibly proud of the winners. Both teachers and students from the local school wished both individuals continued success in all their future endeavours.

“National Productivity awards in 2010” They won the first Place in 2010.


Balangoda Damahana Public school contested for the National Productivity Awards competition in 2010. From this contest this school has won as the first place from Island wide also.
Balangoda damahana public school is situated in Damahana gramaseva division, Balangoda electorate devision of Ratnapura district. This school was established by Venerable revenant Wimalawansa of Kirimatitenna in 1950. It was taken as government school on 4tth of September in 1950.
Firstly, twenty five students entered to the school and Mr. D.A. Thennakoon worked as the principal with two assistant teachers. Since then, the school was being conducted by the several principals with a development. But recently the persons who worked as the principals developed the school and the environment through education.
Specially Mr.M.P. Abayasiri worked as an assistant teacher in the school and later became as the principal for 10 years. He up lifted the standard of school in education and environment rapidly.

Mr. Abesiri was retired in 2003. Then the present principal Mr. B. Somasiri assumed duty in this post. He acted for the rapid development of the school with the teacher staff. As a result of that the school was selected twice, as the first place in the national productivity awards at the provincial level. Again the school was selected and won the first place as the “best environment for education”, which was held by the Ministry of environmental in 2010.
When consider to Year 5 scholarship results, G.C.E. (O/L) results, and G.C.E.(A/L) results there is an special development than other schools in Balangoda educational Zone.

Hence in 2009 Balangoda Damahana maha Vidyalaya was awarded the second place at the national productivity level. Later in 2010, the school was awarded the first place in all Island at the National Productivity contest.
Likewise year by year there is a rapid development of the school. Reference to this we see that the present principal Mr. B. Somasiri is very enthusiastic, courageous person. At every moment he acted to Damahana M.V. high top of Sri Lanka. There for the victory of 2010 is very successful and admirable incident to the school.
We wish Balangoda Damahana Public school to get the strength and courageous to go further for better education in the future.

A New Library for the Balangoda Damahana Public School.

The Damahana public school has consistently delivered outstanding teaching to its students, even though it lacked many key resources and facilities. Chief amongst these was the lack of a library for the children. Now, thanks to the Secondary Education Modernization Project (SEMP) and a donation of Rs 1.9 million a brand new library has been built allowing the children to expand their knowledge and learn from a wonderful array of new books.

The chief minister of Sabaragamuwa, the honorable Mr. Maheepala Herath, handed over the library to the students in an official ceremony that took place on 29th of June 2010. In attendance were the provincial chief secretary of Sabaragamuwa, the honorable Mr. Bhanu Munipriya (minister of Health, Indigenous Medicine & Women Affairs in Sabaragamuwa) and the honorable Mr. Sepala Kuruppu Arachchi (Provincial Manger, Sabaragamuwa educational modernization project and director of Balangoda zonal education).

Damahana WI – FI zone

Balangoda Damahana Maha Vidyalaya is making rapid advancements in the area of ICT. An increase in the number of Desktop PCs, as part of the eVillage project, has been one such area of development.

With the Secondary Education Moderization Project as a sponsor, the school was integrated into the Wi-Fi zone for the province. This capability allows wireless internet access from any location within the school grounds. The Wi-Fi zone was built with 8 access points, which together cover all of the school buildings. As a result, students can now easily connect to the internet wherever they are and work alone or in groups to get things done more effectively and productively.

The WI-FI zone of Damahana Maha Vidyalaya was handed over to the students by the Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa on the 29th of June 2010.

New PCs for Oasisdamahana foundation

Oasisdamahana IT foundation is being held in Balangoda Damahana Maha Vidyalaya. The Foundation has the five brand new computers which were offered by “Education for knowledge society” (EKSP) project to make easier the activities further. These PCs have operating system MS Vista and also have LCD Monitors.
Therefore the students in oasisdamahana foundation are able to use the latest technology with these PCs. Now the students are lucky to have this chance.
Therefore Oasisdamahana IT foundation would like to offer the gratitude and a lot of thanks to Project director and EKSP project.
