Damahana public school is a great school which is engages actively in extracurricular activities. Specially in sports, children have won all Island level victories.
The children have shown their abilities in Divisional level sport meet in 2012. In addition to that Damahana school became the second place giving a big challenge the leading schools in the zonal level sports meet in 2012 -06-11 ,12,13. Some of them are follows.

Further Sabaragamuwa provincial sports meet was held in Embilipitiya Mahaweli ground on 2012.7.13, 14, 15,16. There also Damahana children have won place and given great fame to the school. At there the children have won half marathon 2nd place and girls 4,9,11 places.
Mr. Asoka Gunasekera who is the physical education teacher of the school did a great service and dedication in winning these victories.

We are the greatest winners

The secondary modernization project/ educational for knowledge society of the ministry of education are lunching special programmes to increase the usage of ICT.
We can introduce “National ICT Excellency Award” as a new initiative programme.  Applications were invited for this at this end of 2009 and the computer learning center of Balangoda Damahana public school also applied for this competition.
This result  were out in the month of February 2011 and Damahana public school won the 2nd place in the Sabaragamuwa province. We were able to win 1.5 million LKR. We hope to win great victories in national level evaluations also.
This process of competitions were held under three categories as A,B,C  among  government schools. The schools which have computer learning centers or ICT centers  of schoolNet internet connection were categorized under  “A “ and the computer learning  centers or ICT centers  which don’t have schoolNet connection were categorized under  “B”  and  the schools which don’t have above facilities but they have usage of modern ICT were categorized under” C”.
The difference of this process of this competitions was using the internet  (online uploaded) to hand over applications and evaluate more than the traditional process of competitions.
The application was to submit as an “online “ through the internet.
Balangoda Damahana public school took part of in this under category  “A” and got  94.1 points. We became the  2nd place of the Sabaragamuwa province. Here the school was evaluated under nine criteria including  all the sections of using ICT and resources by the Zonal level  at the first shy and provincial level at the second shy.
Here the special project s launched to improve the ICT and the usage of ICT were evaluated specially. The teachers suggest that we were able to score   maximum marks through that.
This great victory is highly appreciated by the principal and he expressed his graduate to all who dedicated for this.
The teacher in charge(the CLC manager) of the computer laboratory expresses that amount of money is a great award to a school. Further he expresses that he intends to use this amount of money to increase the facilities of the lab and to broaden the facilities.
The parents and the old students of the school express their congratulations about this great victory.

Achieving success by winning software competition 2010.


The students of Balangoda Damahana Public school won the first and fourth places, for the provincial software competition held in 2010 in Sabaragamuwa province held by SEMP II/EKSP project.

The students of Balangoda Damahana Public school recently won the first and fourth places in a provincial software competition, hosted by SEMP II/EKSP and held in the
Sabaragamuwa province.

Lasantha Jayanath Peellawaththa, both a founding and senior member of the OasisDamahana foundation, won the first place for his presentation on the topic of the “Production Possibility Curve”. Mr Peellawaththa was awarded his winner’s certificate, gift voucher and chalice by the honorable governor of the Sabaragamuwa province Mr, V.J.M. Lokubandara.
The prize giving ceremony was held at the Ratnapura Samudi hall on the 24th November 2010 and well attended. 4th place was won by a student from the local Damahana public school.
The local community were all incredibly proud of the winners. Both teachers and students from the local school wished both individuals continued success in all their future endeavours.

The Green House of Balangoda Damahana Maha Vidyalaya


In Balangoda, the Damahana public school is a leading light in educational success and is tirelessly committed to maintaining continued improvement.

Having a better environment has been shown to have positive effects for students and their education. Starting in 2009, the Damahana public school committed itself to focus and improve in this area and was selected as having the best educational environment in the Sabaragamuwa province and rewarded “SUWASARA THAKSHALWA” as a result. Further developments continued into 2010, with the school being awarded 1st place as the most ‘Environmentally Friendly’ school in the province. The official award ceremony was held at the John De Silva Memorial Hall on the 10th July 2010 with school principal, teachers and students all in attendance.

We applaud the Balangoda Damahana public school for its devotion to ongoing improvement to ensure the betterment of all its students and their futures.

National Productivity Award competition 2010


Balangoda Damahana Maha Vidyalaya has applied for the National productivity award contest in 2010 also for the contest school Damahana public school presented since 2007 It has won the Massing Award during 2007 and 2008. In 2009 the Damahana Maha Vidyalaya has won the 1 st place from the sabaragamuwa province and the 2nd place form the National Level.
According to that we can show that Damahana public school is on the top level among other school in Sri Lanka.
The school applies for this contest this time also with the ambition if being the 1st place.
A board of officers from the National productivity secretarial office arrived to R/Damahana Maha Vidyalaya on 15/06/2010 for the primer inspection.
So we wish for them to submit their hops.

A community venture through Dahamana MV

img_0099.jpg   Dahamana gains some historical significance by virtue of the fact that it belongs to the region where the
 world famous primitive ‘Balangoda Man’,  better known as ‘Balangoda Manawaya’ was discovered.
 Mahawalathnna plateau and thin village is situated in delightful are.
  Some say that thousand monks were ordained at one and the same time thus giving the village its name
 ‘Damahana’.

There are two ways to approach the village. One is via the Ratnapura-Balangoda-Kirimelithnna route.
The other is through Ratnapura-Pallebcdda and Weligcpala.

Traveling through the village, one cannot fail to notice the beautiful paddy field right in the heart of the
 village.

img_0095.jpg   Like the early bird that gets the worm, if lucky enough, you will see the farmers in their span cloth and
 mammorty on shoulders setting off to their fields. 
 
  To fulfill the educational needs of the children in the area and to enlighten their knowledge, Damahana
  Maha Vidyalaya serves as a model learning center.
 
The standard of education is always in a high position with extra curricular activities also taking place in
various ways. Among them scouting and girl guiding takes prominence.

 computer learning center has been opened under the Secondary Education modernization project of the
 Ministry of Education. This project has been an impetus in providing the community- children and adults
 alike- the opportunity to improve their computer skills and English knowledge.
 
  By widening this series under the concept of e–village, a website was launched to provide
information about our village, not only to the island, but also to the whole world.
